AngioDefender® Device Patient Information
Saving lives one test at a time
Many people don’t experience symptoms before their first heart attack, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one killer of men and women worldwide. But it doesn’t have to be.
Detecting CVD and heart disease in the early stages can help patients prevent a heart attack and boost overall heart health. The AngioDefender® device from Everist Health performs a new, non-invasive test that can detect CVD in less than 8 minutes, helping patients live longer, healthier lives.
What is the AngioDefender® device?
The AngioDefender® device perfoms a medical test that measures the health of the endothelium – a thin membrane that lines all blood vessels in the body. By testing how the elasticity of these vessels, patients and their care providers can get a more accurate indication of cardiovascular disease risk and take steps to prevent it.
The AngioDefender® device can assess this even in individuals without any other symptoms or risk factors such as high cholesterol, family history or obesity.
How does it work?
The AngioDefender® device uses a blood pressure cuff that is connected to the operating unit. During a simple test that takes less than 8 minutes, the cuff wraps around a patient’s arm, then inflates and deflates to measure the elasticity of the brachial artery. This measurement, called Flow Mediated Dilation (FMD), helps us assess the health of a patient’s arteries.
From there, the patient is given an FMD score that represents the health of their arteries. Patients and providers can continue to monitor the FMD score after alterations are made in diet, exercise and lifestyle habits. And when paired with the Vascular Age Calculator , patients have an easy reference point to track and take control of their own cardiovascular health. What makes the AngioDefender® device different?
The AngioDefender® device is the first device of its kind, detecting heart disease risk in even asymptomatic patients. Previously, the only ways to measure arterial health involved expensive, invasive and complicated procedures. By providing a quick, simple and affordable test, the AngioDefender® device can help save more lives and detect cardiovascular disease earlier.
